The 2015 AFF Women's Championship finished here Sunday evening, with 75 goals scored in 16 matches, including a rocket and many hat-trick made in a single game.
During 16 matches of the tournament, which lasted from May 1-10 in Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City, a total 80 goals were scored, or an average of 5 goals per game. There were no goalless matches.
Partaking in 5 matches, including the final on Sunday, Thai 25-year-old striker Nisa Romyen scored a total of 9 goals, becoming the tournament's top scorer. During the games, she was easily recognized through her movements with lightning speed. During the game against Laos on May 5, Thai striker Alisa Rukpinij made a rocket.
Other leading scorers include Thai 20-year-old striker Alisa Rukpinij with 6 goals, Vietnamese 29-year-old striker Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet with 6, Myanmar 27-year-old midfielder Naw Arlo Wer Phaw with 5, Vietnamese half-backer Nguyen Thi Tuyet Dung with 4, Vietnamese 24-year-old striker Huynh Nhu with 4, Myanmar 26-year-old midfielder Khin Moe Wai with 3, and Australian 15-year-old striker Princess Ibini-Isei with 3.
The tournament saw many lopsided victories. On May 1, Australia U-20 whitewashed Thailand 3-0, and Laos beat Indonesia 2-0. On May 2, the Philippines edged Malaysia 3-0.
On March 3, Thailand steamrolled Indonesia 10-1. On March 4, Vietnam trounced Malaysia 7-0.
On March 5, Thailand defeated Laos 12-0, and Australia U-20 whitewashed Malaysia 7-0. On March 6, Myanmar beat Malaysia, and Vietnam downed the Philippines with the same score of 4-0.
Among outstanding players, western media have focused on depicting Vietnamese half-backer Nguyen Thi Tuyet Dung. BBC ran the title: "Vietnamese player scores two corners in one game using both feet." Tuyet Dung put Vietnam 5-0 up when she curled the ball in with her left foot from a corner on the right hand side. After scoring a second goal, she then repeated the trick with her opposite foot from a corner on the left to complete her hat-trick in the 90th minute.
Meanwhile, 101greatgoals stated: "This is quite a remarkable feat, achieved by Nguyen Thi Tuyet Dung in Vietnam Women's 7-0 win over their Malaysian counterparts today (May 4). Tuyet Dung managed the spectacular coup of scoring directly from a corner and then repeated the trick later in the same game! More, she scored with both feet - first with her left, second with her right. And for anyone who thinks these corner golazos may have been flukes: Nguyen Thi Tuyet Dung was the winner of the Vietnamese 2014 Golden Ball." Endi
