Defending champions Guangzhou Evergrande smashed Shanghai Shenxin 6-1 on Sunday in the ninth round of Chinese Super League (CSL) to climb to the second place in the standings, only one point adrift of current leaders Shanghai SIPG.
The battle between Evergrande and SIPG will come in the next round.
When facing the tailender tonight, Evergrande let some main strength of the team have a rest, Ricardo Goulart was the only foreigner in starters.
Daniel Chukwu Chima gave Shenxin a surprising lead by a volley shot in the 22th minute, but by virtue of upper comprehensive strength, Evergrande had completed reversal in the first half.
In the second half, Evergrande continued their 'massacre', Goulart not only finished his hat-trick, but also contributed 2 assists.
Yu Hanchao locked the final score of the one-sided game to 6-1 in the 73th minute. The big victory made the defending champion just have one step from the top SIPG club.
Another team of CSL who had reached the knockout stage in AFC Champions League is Beijing Guoan. They defeated Changchun Yatai 2-1 in Sunday' s afternoon.
Changchun's Marcelo Moreno broke the ice in the 28th minute, after receiving the swerving ball from Akos Elek.
But Zhou Ting's powerful shot made the equalizer before the half time whistle, Dejan Damjanovic disorganized Yatai' s defence in their baseline and gave Zhou a ground pass.
With Yatai seeming to be at a loss as to what to do, Piao Cheng added the fatal blow. His attack in a very close range locked the score 2-1 till the end in the 64th minute.
In the other games, Jiangsu hold a 2-2 draw with Guangzhou R&F, and Shandong Luneng edged Henan Jianye 2-1. Endi
