Roseberg takes poll ahead of Hamilton in Barcelona

Xinhua, May 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

Nico Rosberg will start on pole position in the Spanish Grand Prix at the Montmelo circuit just outside of Barcelona on Sunday after finishing ahead of his Mercedes team-mate and World Championship leader, Lewis Hamilton in Saturday's qualification.

Rosberg's pole ends Hamilton's run of four consecutive starts from pole position since the start of the 2015 Formula 1 season.

Pole is especially important in Barcelona given that the driver on pole wins the Spanish GP in 90 percent of races.

Rosberg's qualifying time of 1:24.681 was ahead of Hamilton's 01:24.948, while Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel will take third place on the grid ahead of William's Valterri Bottas and Spanish driver Carlos Sainz, who guided his Torro Rosso into an impressive fifth place.

Two times World Champions, Fernando Alonso will start the race from 13th place which is disappointing after his McClaren had shown signs of improvement during Friday's free training sessions. Endi
