SIPG whitewashes 8-men Greenland 5-0 in Shanghai derby

Xinhua, May 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

Three red cards for Greenland gifted SIPG a comfortable 5-0 win in the fierce Shanghai derby on Saturday and helped front runners SIPG extend their unbeaten record to 6-3-0 in the Chinese Super League.

In the most eyecatching ninth round game of the new season, Shanghai Greenland, who had ever topped in Chinese first division in 1990s, were too eager to beat their opponents in the same city. Their abnormal mentality brought them into a whirlpool.

In the injury time of the first half, Dario Conca broke the deadlock through a splendid freekick. Before that, Lv Zheng and Bai Jiajun of Greenland had been driven out with red cards.

Greenland's nightmare continued after the interval. Conca's free kick accidentally bounced twice before the ball found Greenland's net. Nine minutes later, Wu Lei extended SIPG's advantages into three goals.

SIPG didn't stop slaughtering until Tobias Hysen added two goals in the 64th minute and 74th. They will challenge the defending champions Guangzhou Evergrande in the next round.

In the other games on Saturday, Liaoning edged Tianjin 3-2, Hangzhou Greentown beat Guizhou Renhe 1-0.

Jacob Mulenga and Mao Jianqing helped Shijiazhuang Ever Bright beat Chongqing Lifan 2-0 at home. Both teams are promoted from Chinese League One. Endi
