Depay and PSV agree deal with Manchester United

Xinhua, May 7, 2015 Adjust font size:

Manchester United and PSV have reached an agreement on the transfer of Memphis Depay to Manchester, both clubs announced on Thursday.

The 21-year-old forward Depay also agreed personal terms with the English giants. If the Dutch international passes the medical examination the deal is done.

According to English and Dutch media the transfer fee is around 25 to 30 million euros. Depay had a contract until mid-2018 at PSV.

"We are very proud of this transfer," PSV's technical director Marcel Brands stated in a press release. "We are losing an important player, with great value for our team, but we all at PSV think he deserves this beautiful step in his career."

Last year in August Depay had prolonged his contract at PSV by one year until 2018. During that time he also made his goal clear: saying goodbye with a league title, which he eventually did.

PSV claimed their 22nd Dutch championship on April 22 this year, their first title since 2008. Depay is currently top scorer of the Dutch league with 21 goals.

"I always say: dream, believe, achieve," Depay said on his Twitter account. "I was dreaming and believing of becoming the champions of the Eredivisie with PSV and we achieved it. Now it's time to set my goals again on winning trophies with Manchester United."

The winger was born from a Dutch mother and Ghanaian father in Moordrecht, near Rotterdam, on Februari 13, 1994. At the age of twelve he joined the PSV youth academy from Sparta Rotterdam.

In 2011 Depay became European Champions with the Netherlands Under 21 and that same year he debuted for the first team of PSV. He has now played 88 Eredivisie matches for PSV, in which he scored 38 times.

Depay debuted for the Dutch national team on October 15, 2013, as a late substitute against Turkey in Istanbul (2-0 win). He has now played 15 matches for the Netherlands in which he scored two goals, against Australia (3-2 win) and Chili (2-0 win) at the 2014 World Cup.

Depay made his national debut under coach Louis van Gaal, the coach he will be reunited with at Manchester United next season. Endi
