Six killed, 12 injured in jeep accident in far-eastern Nepal

Six persons have been killed and twelve others were injured in a jeep accident in the far-eastern part of Nepal on Thursday, local police authorities said.

The ill-fated jeep en route to Taplegung district headquarters skidded off the highway at Lyangba area and rolled some 7, 00 meters down, Deputy Superintendent of Police Shanti Raj Koirala told Xinhua on the phone.

"Four female and two male were killed on the spot while twelve others injured when the jeep rolled down some 7,00 meters down from the local highway," DSP Koirala told.

Of those injured, eight are undergoing treatment at Taplejung District Hospital and four others severely injured have been sent to Siluguri of India for further treatment, Koirala informed.

As per the preliminary investigation carried out by the police, the mishap occurred when the driver lost his control, the police official said. Taplejung District Headquarters is located 835 Kms east of the Nepali Capital Kathmandu. Endi
