7 Philippine soldiers killed in clashes with rebels

Seven government troopers were killed and nine others were wounded in separate clashes with New People's Army (NPA) rebels in south Philippines, the military reported on Thursday.
One incident occurred in Davao city around 9:45 a.m. local time Wednesday when troops from the 69th Infantry Division encountered 50 rebels on their task to search a reported rebel camp, said the military.
Four soldiers were killed in the firefight while seven others and a government militiaman were injured. The number of casualties on the NPA side was not immediately known.
In North Catabato, three soldiers were killed and another was injured in a separate clash between the military and NPA.
The clash happened at around 2:25 p.m. on Wednesday and lasted for 30 minutes.
