Eurozone retail trade down 0.8 pct in March

Xinhua, May 6, 2015 Adjust font size:

The seasonally adjusted retail trade volume dropped by 0.8 percent and 0.6 percent in the euro zone and the European Union (EU) in March respectively, EU's statistical office Eurostat said Wednesday.

On a year-on-year basis, retail sales increased by 1.6 percent in the euro zone and 2.5 percent in the EU.

The decrease in the euro area in March, compared with February, was due to falls of 2.7 percent for automotive fuel, of 0.8 percent for the non-food sector and of 0.6 percent for food, drinks and tobacco.

Among member states for which data are available, the highest increases were registered in Ireland, Austria, Spain and Slovakia, while the largest decreases in Portugal, Estonia, Denmark and Slovenia. Endit
