Philippine president kicks off visits to U.S., Canada

Philippine President Benigno Aquino III left Wednesday for his working and state visits to the United States and Canada, respectively.

Aquino, in his departure speech, said that he would take the opportunity to encourage investors in the two countries to invest in the Philippines.

In Chicago, his first stop, the President said that he would meet with the leader of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and U.S.- ASEAN Business Council, and with the Filipino community.

After his one day working trip, Aquino and the members of his delegation will fly to Canada to meet with Governor General David Johnston and Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

This will be the first state visit for a Philippine president since former President Fidel Ramos' visit in 1997.

He is also set to meet with the Filipino community in Toronto and Vancouver. Endi
