Thai king attends 65th coronation anniversary ceremony

Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej on Tuesday attended a ceremony commemorating the 65th anniversary of his accession to the throne, a rare public appearance the world's longest reigning monarch has made since late last year.
The ceremony, which was held at the Grand Palace in the capital city, was attended by the Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn, Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, royal family members and senior government officials.
The king left Siriraj Hospital, where he has been under medical treatment since last October, and stayed at the Grand Palace for around an hour before returning to the hospital with the company of Sirindhorn.
The crown prince performed the subsequent religious ceremony.
A walking rally was reportedly held earlier in the day to celebrate the coronation anniversary, with Defense Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan presided over its opening ceremony.
The five-kilometer walk drew people from all walks of life and government officials.
The 87-year-old king was crowned on May 5, 1950 at the Royal Palace in Bangkok. Endi
