Xinhua summary of Asia-Pacific stocks news at 1100GMT, May 5

Chinese shares tumbled on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down by 4.06 percent to finish at 4,298.71 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index fell 4.22 percent to close at 14, 233.1 points.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 2.17 percent to end at 2,783.44 points.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed down 368.28 points, or 1. 31 percent to 27,755.54 points on Tuesday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 27,598.17 and 28, 316.63. Turnover totaled 175.59 billion HK dollars (about 22.63 billion U.S. dollars).

---- VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market finished on Tuesday up 2.21 percent against the previous trading day.

The Lao Securities Exchange composite index increased by 31.62 points to 1,462.19. A total of 60,808 shares worth about 438 million Lao kip (about 54,000 U.S. dollars) changed hands at the stock market.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in southern Vietnam, closed at 552.65 points on Tuesday, up 7.57 points, or 1.39 percent, against the previous trading day's closing session.

About 116.972 million shares worth 1.829 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (85.24 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange.

VN30-Index, the new benchmark index for the southern bourse, which tracks the 30 leading stocks by both market capitalization and liquidity, closed at 585.45 points, up 8.93 points, or 1.55 percent.

A total of 53.614 million shares worth 1.080 trillion VND (50. 35 million U.S. dollars) were traded on Tuesday.

HONG KONG -- Taiwan's share prices closed down 0.25 percent on Tuesday with the weighted index down 24.91 points at 9,820.13, according to news reaching here from Taipei.

Turnover totaled 91.16 billion new Taiwan dollars (about 2.97 billion U.S. dollars) during the trading session.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX- Index, closed at 80.23 points on Tuesday, up 0.29 points, or 0.36 percent, against the previous trading session.

A total of 40.884 million shares worth 423.795 billion Vietnamese dong (19.85 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Tuesday, a decrease of 30.95 percent in volume and 34.38 percent in value against the previous trading session.

---- JAKARTA -- Indonesian shares closed higher by 19.17 points, or 0. 37 percent, to a level of 5,160.31 on Tuesday.

Some 255,132 transactions were booked, involving 5.74 billion shares worth 6.22 trillion rupiah (about 478.49 million U.S. dollars).

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks finished lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) down 11.51 points, or 0.33 percent, to close at 3,471.19.

A total of 1.51 billion shares changed hands with turnover of 885.5 million Singapore dollars (665.8 million U.S. dollars).

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended higher here on Tuesday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,827.42 up 9.15 points or 0.50 percent, and the Emas was at 12,589.40 up 50.36 points or 0.40 percent.

Turnover declined to 1.82 billion shares valued at 1.93 billion ringgit Malaysia (534.33 million U.S. dollars), compared with 1.52 billion shares valued at 2.17 billion ringgit Malaysia (609.04 million U.S. dollars) on last Thursday.

MUMBAI -- Indian stocks closed lower on Tuesday after a volatile session.

The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex closed at 27,440.14, 50.45 points or 0.18 percent down from previous close of 27,490.59.

DHAKA -- Bangladesh's DSE (Dhaka Stock Exchange) Broad Index closed Tuesday at 4,014.37 points, up 54.63 points or about 1.38 percent from Monday's finish.
