Xinhua, May 5, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Geneva Consultations on Syria on Tuesday kicked off here in the United Office in Geneva, almost three years after the Geneva Communique was adopted.

Representatives from Syrian government, opposition and civil society, as well as the regional and international stakeholders will discuss the dire situation in Syria and to provide their candid views on where all parties stand vis-a-vis implementation of the Geneva Communique.

The Special Envoy of the Secretary-General Staffan de Mistura Tuesday told a press conference that he will engage with a series of consultations from today, noting the process will last for an initial period of five to six weeks.

"Within the conflicts now, in its fifth year and three years after the adoption of Geneva Communique and no follow-up, little of anything has moved," he said.

He said the conflicts is intensified recently and humanitarian situation on the ground is more grieve.

He underscored that "we must redouble efforts in search of political process".

However, he noted no major communique is expected at the conclusion of the " low-key and serious" consultations. Endit
