Bremen's captain Clemens Fritz extends contract

Xinhua, May 5, 2015 Adjust font size:

Bremen veteran and captain Clemens Fritz extended his expiring contract for another year, the " Werderaner" announced in an official statement on Monday.

Fritz has worn since 2006 the jersey of the Green-Whites and the chapter is not yet closed as the team's captain agreed on a contract extension for another year, until June 2016. The former German international took his time with the signature under a new contract as he had doubts whether he would retire or not.

"I needed my time to consider as I wanted to get a sense if my body is still able to perform on a top level for another year. And it looks good. I feel very good, and the desire to continue on the pitch," the 34-year-old defender said.

Fritz joined Bremen from Leverkusen in 2006 and scored four goals in 310 official games.

"We as the coaching staff are very delighted that he will be another year with us. He is an important go-to-guy for the team," Bremen coach Viktor Skripnik said.

Bremen sit currently on the 7th place of the Bundesliga standings, only one point adrift of the places for the international business. Endite
