Lorenzo forces the pace to win Jerez Moto GP

Xinhua, May 4, 2015 Adjust font size:

It was a great day for the 150,000 fans in Jerez, who saw a Spanish one-two in the Moto GP on Sunday.

Lorenzo, who on Friday announced he was extending his contract to ride with Yamaha, was the clear winner of the race ahead of reigning World Champion, Marc Marquez, who produced a brave display despite and injured hand to finish ahead of Valentino Rossi, the leader of this year's Championship.

The race itself was not as spectacular as the Moto 2 and Moto 3 races earlier in the day, mainly because Lorenzo, who was 27 seconds faster than he had been in the same race a year ago, gave his rivals no option of catching him.

There was an emotional finish in the Moto2 as local boy Alex Rims fell on the last corner as he battled for second place as the race was run by Jonas Folger with Chmpionship leaders Johann Zarco second and Esteve Rabab in third.

Sixteen-year-old Englishman Dany Kent started the day with a dramatic win in Moto 3, his third consecutive triumph which takes him to the top of the Championship. Kent saved his winning move for the last corner of the race. Endi
