Youth Olympics champion Fan into semis at table tennis worlds

Xinhua, May 2, 2015 Adjust font size:

World number four Fan Zhengdong of China showed few signs of vulnerabilities when he sent German veteran Timo Boll crashing out of the men's singles quarterfinals at the world table tennis championships here on Saturday.

The victory secured Fan a berth in semifinals where he will play against world number one and Chinese teammate Ma Long.

It's a close match against Boll, but the 18-year-old Fan always raised his game above normal level at crucial moments, edging past Bill with the scores of 12-10, 11-9, 8-11, 11-7, 13-15, 11-7.

Fan, who stormed to fame with his triumph at last year's Youth Olympics, also reached the men's doubles final with partner Zhou Yu at the championships. Endit
