Myanmar to mark World Press Freedom Day 2015 in Yangon

Myanmar will mark the World Press Freedom Day 2015 in Yangon on Sunday, sources with Ministry of Information said Saturday.

Jointly organized by Ministry of Information and UNESCO, Information Minister U Ye Htut and Chairperson of House of Representatives Rule of Law and Tranquility Committee Daw Aung San Suu Kyi will deliver speeches at the ceremony.

It is the fourth consecutive year of celebration in Myanmar.

Resident Representative of UNESCO Myanmar Sardar Umar Alam will read out the message sent by the UNESCO director-general.

Myanmar has been observed World Press Freedom Day since 2012.

In 2014, the World Press Freedom Day was celebrated under the theme of "Media Freedom for a Better Future".

Last year, Myanmar promulgated a new media law, which allows the formation of private or public media companies as well as related joint ventures. Endi
