Albania's unemployment rate increases by 1.5 pct in Q1

Xinhua, May 1, 2015 Adjust font size:

Albania's unemployment rate in the first quarter of 2015 has increased by 1.5 percent year on year, with a youth unemployment rate of 32.5 percent, a 5.3-percent increase year on year, the Albanian Institute of Statistics said Thursday.

In 2014, Albania's number of unemployed was 219,797.

Based on the Labor Force Survey estimates, 50.5 percent of the population aged 15-64 years old was employed, 11 percent was unemployed and 38.5 percent was economically inactive, i.e., outside the labor force, in 2014.

Meanwhile, the demand for business and household loans in Albania in the first quarter of 2015 was down, compared to the previous quarter, the Bank of Albania said.

Related to business, mainly small and medium-sized enterprises lowered the demand for loan. The slowdown of the households loan demand reflects a decrease in demand for the consumer loan. Endi
