1st LD: Japan's industrial output down 0.3 pct in March

Xinhua, April 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

Japan's industrial output in March declined 0.3 percent from the previous month, mainly caused by sluggish shipments of electrical machinery and petroleum products, government data showed Thursday.

The index of output at factories and mines stood at 98.6 against the 2010 base of 100, the Economy, Trade and Industry Ministry said in a preliminary report.

It marks the second straight monthly decline but was better than the average market expectation of a 2.3 percent decrease. The ministry maintained its basic assessment, saying that output is " showing signs of increase at a moderate pace."

By sector, the electric machinery sector saw output fall by 3.7 percent. Output by petroleum and coal products manufacturers also fell 7.7 percent, the ministry said.

Five out of 15 sectors saw their production increase, with output by transport equipment manufacturers, including automakers, rising 1.2 percent. Endi
