Belgians lose confidence in gov't: poll

Xinhua, April 29, 2015 Adjust font size:

Belgians are losing faith in their political class, according to a new poll released on Wednesday.

The poll was commissioned by media outlets VTM Nieuws, Het Laatste Nieuws, RTL-TVI and Le Soir, and was conducted by polling agency IPSOS based on answers provided by over 2,400 respondents.

The poll showed that confidence in the federal government of Charles Michel is falling, with respondents giving the prime minister's party an average score of 4.9 out of 10. This is a slight decrease since the last poll, conducted in January 2015, which saw an average score of 5 out of 10.

Confidence in regional governments is also declining.

The Flemish regional government of Geert Bourgeois, while scoring an above average 5.3, has also fallen since January.

The Walloon regional government's popularity has increased slightly from the last poll, from it's low score of 4.3 to 4.4. Confidence in the Brussels regional government also remains low, with a score of 4.5.

The poll surveyed 2,436 Belgians aged 18 and older between April 20 and 24. Of the respondents, 952 were located in Wallonia, 963 in Flanders and 521 in the capital region. Endit
