Young footballer in critical condition after collapsing on field

Xinhua, April 29, 2015 Adjust font size:

Belgian footballer Gregory Mertens was still in a critical condition in hospital Tuesday after he collapsed playing for Sporting Lokeren, struck by a heart-attack.

The 24-year-old collapsed on the field 20 minutes into the game against Genk and was rushed to the hospital.

The club said they looked closely into his situation and sympathized with his family.

Mertens began his career in Brussels with Anderlecht, moved to Bruges in 2011 before transferring to Lokeren in January, 2014. He has capped several times for Belgian national youth sides. Endi
