Spanish home mortgages up by 29.2 pct in Feb.

The number of home mortgages granted to prospective buyers in Spain increased by 29.9 percent in February when compared with the same month in 2014, Spain's Statistical Office (INE) reported on Tuesday.

The INE said a total of 21,298 home mortgages were granted in February, which meant a 1.8 percent increase in comparison with January.

The amount of capital loaned stood at 2.331 billion euros (2.546 billion U.S. dollars) at the end of February, which meant a 37.1 percent increase when compared with a year earlier and a 5.4 percent rise in comparison with the amount of capital loaned in January.

The average value of home mortgages stood at 120,017 euros, which meant a 17.2 percent fall on a year-on-year basis and a 1.4 percent increase when compared with January.

Spanish regions of Madrid, Andalusia and Catalonia registered the highest number of mortgage contracts signed in February with 4,066, 4,032 and 3,214 respectively. Endit
