Saudi Arabia witnesses decline in MERS cases

Saudi Health Ministry announced on Sunday a decline in Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) cases for the 5th consecutive week, Saudi Press Agency reported.

The ministry said only two cases were recorded over the past week in Hofuf and Riyadh, compared to 102 cases reported for the same period of last year.

Saudi Arabia, which has been worst-hit by the virus, witnessed a rise in the case in February and March of this year because of the changing weather and the breeding season of camel, which is the main suspect of the virus transmission source.

Since the first MERS case that was reported here in 2012, more than 900 cases have been reported in Saudi Arabia. Endit
