Afghan battle leaves 51 dead including 43 militants in northern Afghan province: Official

Xinhua, April 26, 2015 Adjust font size:

A total of 51 people including 43 Taliban militants have been killed over the past two days in northern Kunduz province, spokesman for provincial government Abdul Wasi Basil said Sunday.

"Clash between Taliban rebels and security forces has claimed the lives of 51 people including 43 insurgents and eight security personnel since Saturday," Wasi told Xinhua.

He also admitted that 16 more security personnel had been injured in the clash which is still going on in Gortipa area.

However, he refused to provide more details.

Kunduz province with Kunduz city as its capital 250 km north of Kabul has been the scene of militancy over the past couple of years.

Taliban militants fighting the government launched their so- called annual spring offensive from April 24 and since then have launched several offensives in parts of the conflict-ridden country including Kunduz. Endi
