Vasco in talks to sign Champions League winner

Xinhua, April 24, 2015 Adjust font size:

Vasco da Gama are in talks to sign former Porto and Brazil international midfielder Carlos Alberto, according to media reports.

The 30-year-old has been without a club since leaving Botafogo by mutual consent in December.

According to local football news portal Lancenet, Vasco face competition for Alberto's signature from their Brazilian rivals Figueirense.

Alberto, who earned a solitary Brazil cap in 2005, played a key role in Jose Mourinho's Porto side that won the 2004 Champions League.

The then 19-year-old scored the opening goal of the final against Monaco, which Porto won 3-0 in Gelsenkirchen.

Vasco are also said to be in talks to sign former Botafogo left-back Julio Cesar and ex-Fluminense midfielder Diguinho. Endi
