Boca, River to meet in Libertadores round of 16

Xinhua, April 24, 2015 Adjust font size:

Boca Juniors will meet local rivals River Plate in the opening knockout round of the Copa Libertadores, South American football governing body Conmebol said on Thursday.

The Buenos Aires giants will clash at River's Estadio Monumental on May 7 before the return leg at Boca's Bombonera a week later.

Six-time champions Boca Juniors were the competition's leading team during the group phase, winning all of their six matches with a 19-2 goal difference.

River had just one victory and relied on other results to scrape into the next round.

Two of the competition's round-of-16 matches will be all-Brazilian affairs.

Sao Paulo will play Cruzeiro on May 6 and 13 while Atletico Mineiro will meet Internacional on the same dates.

In other fixtures, Paraguay's Guarani take on Brazil's Corinthians, Uruguay's Montevideo Wanderers clash with Argentina's Racing Club, Emelec confront Atletico Nacional, Mexico's Tigres play Bolivia's Universitario de Sucre and Colombia's Independiente Santa Fe meet Argentina's Estudiantes. Endi
