Spain's unemployment falls by 0.24 pct in Q1

The number of people out of work in Spain fell by 0.24 percent in the first quarter of the year, according to data of the Inquest into the Active Population (EPA) unveiled Thursday by Spain's Statistical Office (INE).
The figure meant 13,100 fewer people out of work in the country, leaving the total number of unemployed people at 5,444,600.
Despite this fall in the number of unemployed people, Spain's active population fell by 127,400 and as a result, Spain's unemployment rate rose from 23.7 in the last quarter in 2014 to 23.78 percent in the first quarter in 2015.
Job losses reached 114,300 between January and March in comparison with the last quarter in 2014. Women's employment fell by 76,200 and men's by 38,100, the INE said, while highlighting that most of the job losses took place within the private sector as opposed to the public one, where job creation reached 29,200.
Regarding sectors, job losses reached 135,400 in the services sector and 11,500 in the agriculture sector. Meanwhile job creation took place in the construction sector and industry sectors with 30,300 and 2,300 new jobs more respectively.
Spain's Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy described data unveiled on Thursday as good. "They confirm the positive evolution of Spain's economy," he said. Endit
