Nigerian troops combating Boko Haram militants have killed notorious top terrorists commander Abu Mojahid in northern Nigeria's Borno State, a military spokesperson said Wednesday.
Spokesperson for the Nigerian Defense Headquarters Major General Chris Olukolade said in a statement reaching Xinhua that the commander and other terrorists had staged a daring attack on troops who were on patrol on the outskirts of Alagarno area on Tuesday morning. (Nigeria-Military)

MAPUTO -- The Mozambican authorities on Wednesday said that more than 600 Mozambicans who have been affected by the wave of xenophobic violence in South Africa are on their way to Maputo.

MUNICH -- Millions of passengers in Germany were affected by German railway strikes on Wednesday, which also caused considerable traffic jams on the highway.

WASHINGTON -- A highly pathogenic form of avian flu called H5N2 is spreading in much of the western and midwestern United States, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) said Wednesday.

BAGHDAD -- At least 10 people were killed and 35 others wounded in two bomb attacks in central Iraq on Wednesday, a police source said.
A suicide bomber wearing an explosive vest blew himself up near a bus stop in southern Samarra, 120 km north of Baghdad, leaving at least eight people killed and 17 others wounded, "all the victims are Shiite pilgrims forward to the shrine of Imam Ali al-Hadi," the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
