Ex-Brazil midfielder Carvalho set for Botafogo move

Xinhua, April 23, 2015 Adjust font size:

Botafogo are close to signing former Brazil international midfielder Daniel Carvalho, the Rio de Janeiro club said on Wednesday.

The 32-year-old has begun training with the club and is expected to sign a season-long contract within days, Botafogo coach Rene Simoes said.

"I hope he will be available for our next Copa do Brasil match [against Capivariano on April 29]," Simoes was quoted telling Lancenet.

"He trained today with the team and physically he is ready. It's going to take a while before he is ready to play 90 minutes but we are going to ease him into it."

Carvalho has not played since a seven-month spell with Criciuma in 2013.

The former CSKA Moscow player has scored two goals from three international appearances for Brazil.

Botafogo, two-time winners of Brazil's Serie A championship, were relegated to the country's second tier in December. Endi
