Death toll climbs to 17 in bus accident in Central Nepal: police

Death toll in a bus accident in Dhading district of Central Nepal has climbed to 17, police said on Wednesday.

"Five female and seven male died on the spot while five other Indian nationals breathed their last in course of treatment in Kathmandu-based hospitals," Deputy Superintendent of Police, Prakash Malla, told Xinhua.

Earlier, police said that seven female and five male were killed and over 30 injured when a passenger bus carrying 50 Indian tourists veered off highway before plunging into a river on Wednesday morning in Dhading district of Central Nepal, some 50 km west of capital Kathmandu.

Malla said that the rescue operation is still underway.

Meanwhile, the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu expressed condolence to the bereaved family members of the victims.

The embassy said in a statement the it was making all possible efforts to provide quality treatment to the injured Indians in the bus accident. Endi
