Japan's maglev train breaks world speed record with 603 km per hour

Xinhua, April 21, 2015 Adjust font size:

A magnetically levitated train run by Central Japan Railway Co. set a new world speed record of 603 kilometers per hour during a test run on Tuesday.

The train broke the previous world record of 590 km per hour set by itself last Thursday by using new LO-series cars, local media reported.

Satisfied that the technology works, the company is now going to devote its resources to developing a maglev track that will link Tokyo and Nagoya in 40 minutes by 2027, compared with 88 minutes by the current Shinkansen bullet train.

It is expected to run at a maximum 500 km per hour during commercial operations. The company said it aims to start train services between Nagoya and Osaka in 2045. Endi
