Botswana's Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi on Tuesday warned Batswana not to travel to South Africa currently under the wave of xenophobic attacks.

In a statement issued here Tuesday, the Botswana government said citizens traveling to South Africa despite this warning should develop contingency plans prior to arrival to ensure their safety and security.

The travel advisory applies to nonessential travel to her southern neighbor where xenophobic attacks have resulted in the killing of at least seven people.

There is a large number of Batswana nationals living in South African, including about 120 students studying in Durban, one of the hard-hit cities. Endi
