Texas House approves open gun-carry bill

Xinhua, April 21, 2015 Adjust font size:

The House of Representatives in the U.S. state of Texas on Monday gave final approval to legislation that allows licensed gun owners to carry their handguns openly.

According to the Texas Tribune, the state House voted 101-42 Monday largely along party lines after preliminarily passing the bill on Friday.

The state Senate has already approved a similar legislation and the chambers are expected to send the measure to Republican Governor Greg Abbott to sign into law in the coming weeks. Abbot has indicated he will sign any such bill that reaches his desk.

The bill put Texas one step closer to becoming the 45th U.S. state to allow licensed gun owners to openly carry handguns. Texas is one of six U.S. states that prohibit open carry. The other states are California, Florida, Illinois, New York and South Carolina. Endi
