Xinhua, April 21, 2015 Adjust font size:

Albanian National Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) Monday said that Albania's population have declined by 26, 000 people from January 2010 to January 2015 in a country of about 3 million.

Official statistics from INSTAT show projections suggest that Albanian population from 2011-2031 will fall in most parts of the country, excluding main cities like Tirana, Durres and Vlora.

INSTAT figures suggest that Albanian capital Tirana's population will grow by 25 percent, taking its current population of 763,560 residents to over 965,000 in 2031.

The population growth over the next two decades will be limited to a 3 per cent rate in the regions of Durres and Vlora.

The fastest population fall is expected to take place in the northern regions of Kukes and Diber, as well as in the southern region of Gjirokaster, with population expected to decrease by around 30 percent by 2031.

The rest of the country will also register a population fall by around 10-20 per cent by 2031.

Migration has become the main factor influencing the population decrease at a national level, although natural growth remains positive. Endit
