Chinese Vice President Li Yuanchao on Monday met with a Hong Kong civil delegation in Beijing.

Members of the delegation are from the New Territories Association of Societies (NTAS). The delegation was led by Leung Che-cheung, head of the NTAS.

Li said that selecting Hong Kong's chief executive by universal suffrage has been a common wish of the central government and most of people in Hong Kong.

Hong Kong people from all walks of life should seize the historic opportunity and promote the public suffrage in line with the law in a bid to ensure the city's prosperity, stability and the happy life of the people, Li said. Endi
