Xinhua, April 20, 2015 Adjust font size:

Uganda will host the 2015 Under 17 regional football championship in December, a sports official here said on Monday.

Moses Magogo, the Uganda FA President told Xinhua that the decision was taken after deliberations at the Council for Eastern and Central Africa football Association (Cecafa) in Nairobi, Kenya last Friday.

"We had a very good meeting and made several decisions on the next host of the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup and the Cecafa Kagame Club Championships," he said.

Nicholas Musonye, the Cecafa Secretary General also told Xinhua that the Senior Challenge Cup which did not take place last year will be hosted by Rwanda in November after Tanzania has hosted the Cecafa Kagame Cup in June.

"All plans are in place for the three tournaments. The Kagame Cup will be held in June and the Senior Challenge Cup in November but we are yet to finalize on the dates," he said.

Rwanda decided to host the Senior Challenge Cup as they prepare to host the 2016 Africa Nations Championship which is the second Tier event after the Africa Cup of Nations.

Uganda are the defending champions of the Under 17 Cecafa event after defeating Eritrea 2-0 in the final played in 2009 in Sudan.

Kenya are the defending champions of the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup after defeating Sudan at the 2013 final, while Sudan' s El Merreikh are the Cecafa Kagame Club Championship Cup holders. Endi
