Two survivors of small plane crash rescued in Peru

Peruvian authorities rescued two survivors of a small plane crashed in Peru's Amazon region, the National Police of Peru (PNP) said on Thursday.

The Bolivian aircraft crashed late Wednesday over the jungle community of Rio Tambo, in the province of Satipo, 440 km east of the capital Lima.The region, known as the Apurimac River Valley, is an active drug trafficking corridor.

The two crew members, believed to be Brazilian and Colombian, were taken to a public hospital in the nearby city of Satipo for treatment, before undergoing an interrogation.

In recent years, multinational drug cartels have been using aircraft acquired in the United States, but registered in Bolivia, to transport cocaine from Peru's Amazon to consumer countries. Endi
