Xinhua, April 16, 2015 Adjust font size:

India Thursday successfully testfired its home-made, nuclear-capable Agni III ballistic missile from a military base off the coast of the eastern state of Odisha, sources said.

"The surface-to-surface missile, with a strike range of more than 3,000 km, was fired from the Wheeler Island off Odisha coast. The testfiring has been successful," the sources said.

Agni III, which can carry a payload of 1.5 tonnes, has already been inducted into the armed forces.

The ballistic missile has been developed by the state-owned Defense Research and Development Organisation as a successor to Agni II missile. Endi
