Tokyo shares ended lower on Wednesday as concerns over slowdown in the United States and China weighed on investors' sentiment here.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 38.92 points, or 0.20 percent, from Tuesday at 19,869.76.

The turnover was about 2,322.9 billion yen (about 19.40 billion U.S. dollars).

TAIPEI -- Taiwan's share prices closed down 1.05 percent Wednesday with the weighted index down 102.16 points at 9,540.06, according to news reaching here from Taipei.

Turnover totaled 113.15 billion new Taiwan dollars (2.62 billion U.S.dollars) during the trading session.

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended higher on Wednesday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) rose 8. 24 points, or 0.39 percent, to 2,119.96 at the close. Trading volume stood at 445.87 million shares worth 7.28 trillion won (6. 64 billion U.S. dollars).

The South Korean currency finished at 1,096.8 won against the greenback, down 2.8 won from Tuesday's close.

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 1.86 percent lower on Wednesday.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index decreased by 150. 03 points to 7906.46. The all-share index went down by 85.03 points, or 1.85 percent, to 4520.89.

Trading volume reached 1.98 billion shares worth 8.03 billion pesos (179.91 million U.S. dollars).

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks moved up 57.33 points, or 0.21 percent on Wednesday at 27,618.82 points.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 27,442.52 and 27, 807.98. Turnover totaled 216.15 billion HK dollars (about 27.89 billion U.S. dollars).

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 564.5 points on Wednesday, up 5.83 points, or 1.04 percent, against the previous trading day's closing session.

A total of 34.781 million shares worth 840.38 billion VND (39. 16 million U.S. dollars) were traded on Wednesday.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX- Index, closed at 83.03 points on Wednesday, up 0.83 points, or 1. 01 percent, against the previous trading session.

A total of 44.864 million shares worth 603.384 billion Vietnamese dong (28.26 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Wednesday, an increase of 27.23 percent in volume and 29.47 percent in value against the previous trading session.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks finished higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) up 18.87 points, or 0. 54 percent, to close at 3,539.95.

A total of 3.49 billion shares changed hands with turnover of 1. 59 billion Singapore dollars (1.17 billion U.S. dollars).

DHAKA -- Bangladesh's DSE (Dhaka Stock Exchange) Broad Index closed Wednesday at 4,360.50 points, down 68.87 points or about 1. 60 percent from Monday's finish.

Total turnover increased to about 4.70 billion taka (about 60. 22 million U.S. dollars) on Wednesday from about 4.12 billion taka (about 52.85 million U.S. dollars) on Monday.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended higher here on Wednesday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,840.14 up 0.52 of a point or 0.03 percent, and the Emas was at 12,663.93 up 28.83 points or 0.23 percent.

Turnover increased to 2.70 billion shares valued at 2.51 billion ringgit Malaysia (677.01 million U.S. dollars), compared with 2.02 billion shares valued at 2.08 billion ringgit Malaysia ( 561.86 million U.S. dollars) on Tuesday.

MUMBAI -- Indian stocks closed lower on Wednesday, breaking the seven-day winning streak on profit-booking in the late trade. About 1376 shares have advanced, 1492 shares declined, and 151 shares are unchanged on the BSE.

BEIJING -- Chinese stocks ended lower on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 1.24 percent, or 51.4 points, to finish at 4,084.16 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index lost 2.82 percent, or 395.86 points, to close at 13,646.61 points. Endi
