More than 20 security personnel had been killed, some of them beheaded by Taliban militants couple of days ago in Jarm district of Badakhshan province with Faizabad as its capital 315 km northeast of Kabul, head of Badakhshan Provincial Council, Abdullah Naji Nazari said Monday.

"In the clash which happened in Khostak area of Jarm district very recently, nine Afghan soldiers and three police had been killed," Nazari told Xinhua.

The fierce clash between Taliban militants and Afghan security forces took place on Friday.

He also added that nine more Afghan soldiers were injured and several others were either captured or went missing.

Another 10 security personnel had been beheaded by the militants, Nazari asserted.

Meantime, some locals said the number of casualties might be higher than reported.

During the clash which lasted for several hours, 27 militants including some foreigners had been killed, the official said.

Deputy to Badakhshan provincial police chief Sakhidad Haidari told Xinhua last Saturday that the clash claimed 22 lives, including 17 Taliban insurgents and five security personnel. Another 42 were injured, including 30 militants and 12 security personnel.
