Philippine gov't calls on remaining Filipinos in war-torn Yemen to leave

The Philippine government strongly urged Saturday the remaining estimated 400 Filipinos in strife- torn Yemen to avail of the repatriation program.

This came after 464 Filipinos and nine foreigners have been successfully evacuated by the Philippine government from Yemen, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said.

They were evacuated in four batches by land through the Yemeni- Saudi border since April 5.

"I again strongly urge all Filipinos who remain in Yemen to immediately contact the Embassy team to arrange for their evacuation from Yemen immediately," said Philippine Ambassador to Saudi Arabia and Yemen Ezzedin Tago.

Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Rosalinda Bandoz assured that the government will extend assistance to the returning Filipinos.

She said DOLE is providing welfare, employment, legal and livelihood assistance to them. Endi
