India's factory output expands by 5 pct in February

India's factory output expanded by 5 percent in February, the highest in nine months, said official statistics on Friday.

For the first 11 months of fiscal 2014-15, from last April to February, the overall growth stands at 2.8 percent, according to data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation.

Consumer goods and basic goods rose by 5.2 percent and 5 percent respectively, while electricity generation was up by 5.9 percent, manufacturing segment by 5.2 percent, and mining by 2.5 percent.

Local analysts said the factory performance is apparently encouraging signs of economic growth.

The Indian government has vowed to push the growth to above 8 percent in 2015-16. Endi
