BiH prosecutors charge four suspects in terrorist case

Xinhua, April 10, 2015 Adjust font size:

Prosecutors in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) on Friday charged four Bosnians with organizing and financing terrorist activities.

Husein Erdic was indicted with assisting two locals to join the Islamic State (IS) while the fourth suspect, Midhat Trako, was accused of financing their trip to Syria and Iraq via Istanbul in Turkey.

Over 20 Bosnians have been killed so far while fighting in Syria, local media reported. Several hundred Bosnians have gone to Syria or Iraq over the past several years.

"The indictment confirms the commitment of the prosecutor's office of BiH, police, and security agencies to fight against terrorism and terrorist activities and prevent the departure of BiH nationals to foreign battlefields," the prosecutor's office said in a statement.

If found guilty, the four suspects could face up to 20 years in prison, according to a law passed by the BiH parliament last year. Endit
