Two Chinese companies have partnered two emerging Namibian companies to work on water pipe laying project for two Namibia's coastal towns.

China State Construction Engineering Corporation Southern Africa has joined hands with Kata Investments on a 200 million Namibian dollar (16.8 million U.S. dollars) project.

The other company, Zhongmei Engineering Group, has partnered Luka Properties on the same project.

A spokesperson for NamWater, the project owners, confirmed to local media Wednesday that the tender whose total value is 520 million Namibian dollars(43.7 million U.S. dollars ) was awarded to the companies.

The project involves replacing pipes between Omdel dam in the Omaruru delta and the coastal towns of Henties Bay and Swakopmund. Part of the project includes ancillary works for the Central Namib area water supply scheme.

Already, the companies have set up equipment storage camps after Swakopmund town made available land. Endi
