U.S. initial jobless claims remain at low level

Xinhua, April 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

The number of Americans initially applying for unemployment aid last week increased but remained at a historically low level, echoing an improving job market.

In the week ending April 4, the advance figure of seasonally adjusted initial claims for jobless benefits rose to 281,000, 14,000 more than the revised level of the previous week, the U.S. Labor Department said Thursday.

Meanwhile, the four-week moving average, which helps smooth out week-to-week volatility, edged down by 3,000 to 282,250 last week, the lowest level since June 2000.

The advance figure of seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending March 28 decreased 23,000 from the previous week to 2,304,000, the lowest level since December 2000.

The U.S. economy added 126,000 jobs in March, while the unemployment rate held steady at 5.5 percent, the Labor Department reported last week. Endi
