One person was killed and eight others injured in a roadside bomb by Al-Shabaab on Tuesday, which targeted the convoy of deputy governor of Mudug region in Central Somalia's Galkayo town, authorities have said.

Ahmed Muse Nor, deputy governor of Mudug region, confirmed to the media that the explosion targeted his car, but he and his security team escaped unscathed.

"One of my cars was hit in the explosion, killing one person and injuring at least eight others. I escaped unhurt," Nor said.

The eight injured have been taken to a local hospital.

The militant group Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack.
