S. Africa, Egypt press for UN reform: Zuma

Xinhua, April 3, 2015 Adjust font size:

South Africa and Egypt have agreed to press for the reform of United Nations (UN), the UN Security Council in particular, South African President Jacob Zuma said on Friday.

"South Africa and Egypt have agreed to engage on the matter of UN Reform in line with 'Africa's position', as contained in the Ezulwini Consensus," Zuma said upon return from a two-day working visit to Egypt.

The Ezulwini Consensus is a position on international relations and reform of the United Nations, agreed by several African governments.

During his visit, Zuma and his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi agreed to boost bilateral trade and enhance collaboration to resolve "the many challenges facing the African continent."

"We agreed that it is now urgent to find, through peaceful means and dialogue, a political solution to the crises confronting countries in conflict situations. In this regard, regional organizations such as the African Union and the Arab League have an important role to play in that process," said Zuma. Endi
