Bulgarian customs have seized over 50,000 smuggled pills which allegedly can boost sexual power at the Lesovo checkpoint on the country's southeastern border with Turkey, officials said here on Friday.
The smuggled medicine was found during a detailed customs inspection of a truck with foreign registration traveling from Turkey to Germany, the National Customs Agency said in a statement.
The driver declared that he was carrying clothes, yarn and knitwear for Germany but the officers found cans and bottles containing 52,880 tablets from seven pharmaceutical brands, mostly for strong sexual stimulation, the agency said.
Authorities estimated the value of the pills on the black market would exceed 276,000 U.S. dollars.
The vehicle and its driver, a Turkish citizen, were detained, and the smuggled drugs confiscated, the agency said.
Bulgaria is a key transit route for drugs smuggled from Asia to Europe. In 2014, the Balkan country seized more than one tonne of heroin, 50 tonnes of marijuana, 0.1 tonne of cocaine and half a tonne of synthetic drugs. Endit
