BEIJING, April 3 (Xinhua) - China on Friday congratulated Muhammadu Buhari for being elected as Nigeria's new president.

China attaches high importance to the relations with Nigeria, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said at a press conference.

She said this year marks the 10th anniversary of the China-Nigeria strategic partnership. China is ready to work with Nigeria to strengthen practical cooperation in all fields and promote a comprehensive and in-depth development of the strategic partnership, she said.

Muhammadu Buhari, candidate of Nigeria's opposition All Progressives Congress, was officially declared president-elect on Wednesday after defeating incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan in the national polls conducted by Nigeria's Independent National Electoral Commission over the weekend. Endit
