Poland expresses gratitude to China for assistance in Yemen evacuation

Xinhua, April 3, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its gratitude to China on Friday for providing assistance in evacuating Polish residents from Yemen.

Four people were evacuated by sea from the seaport city of Aden to the Republic of Djibouti. Aden has come under increasing attack in recent days.

"The evacuation of Polish citizens from Yemen was possible thanks to effective and efficient cooperation of Polish diplomacy representatives and their Chinese counterparts," said the official statement released from Poland thanking the People's Republic of China.

The ministry also thanked the Russian Federation for evacuating another 20 persons to Moscow.

After evacuating more than 570 of its own citizens from Yemen, China also provided help for 225 foreigners from 10 countries.

It was the first time China had engaged in such a large-scale help aimed at non-Chinese residents in the conflict region. Apart from the Poles, civilians from Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Canada, Ireland and other countries were evacuated in the diplomatic rescue mission.

On Thursday evening, a Chinese naval unit escorted the foreign civilians from the port of Aden to the city of Djibouti.

The joint operation of Saudi Arabia and its allies is aimed against the Houthi insurgency in Yemen. A total of 519 people have already been killed, according to Polish media ONZ reports. Endit
