Chinese shares rose for the third consecutive day Friday ahead of the three-day Tomb-Sweeping Day holiday.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index added 1.0 percent, or 38.14 points, to finish at 3,863.93 points. It gained 4.68 percent this week.
The Shenzhen Component Index gained 0.51 percent, or 68.54 points, to close at 13,494.64 points.
Combined turnover on the two bourses expanded to 1.26 trillion yuan (205.4 billion U.S. dollars) from the 1.24 trillion yuan on the previous trading day, marking the fifth consecutive day to stay above the 1 trillion level.
The environmental protection industry made strong gains. Nanjing CEC Environmental Protection Co., Ltd. climbed 5.46 percent to 41.16 yuan per share. Yonker Environmental Protection Co., Ltd. surged 7.17 percent to 46.03 yuan.
Sun Xiwei, an analyst with CITIC securities, said a safe choice for investors is to lock in the hefty profit accumulated during the recent rapid rise.
However, holding the stocks for more gains is also acceptable as the upbeat market sentiment is expected to stay for a while, he added.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, added 1.41 percent, or 34.84 points, to end at 2,510.16 points. Endi
